A Wide Portfolio of Forged Aluminum Wheels for Any Application, Weight and Load Rating
From box trucks, buses and motorhomes to tanker trailers, bulk trailers and long-haul tractors to logging, construction and mining operations, Alcoa® Wheels offers a full range of forged aluminum wheel options for truck Classes 3 through 8.
After creating the forged aluminum wheel industry more than 75 years ago, Alcoa® Wheels has been continually innovating with new wheels sizes with different weight and load ratings, and technological advances to meet the unique needs of all types of trucking applications.
Following are the four broader categories of wheel types offered by Alcoa® Wheels:
- Lightweight Solutions – over-the-road application, truck weight-sensitive environments.
- Wide Base Wheels – to replace dual wheel combination, weight sensitive, over-the-road trailer/rear.
- Severe Service – for extreme conditions where strength and durability are needed.
- Heavy Load – a true lightweight heavyweight.
Lightweight Solutions
Lighter wheels lead to greater productivity through increased payload, improved fuel efficiency and enhanced sustainability. The alloy itself is the key to lightweight wheels that offer exceptional strength and durability. In 2013, Alcoa® Wheels introduced the proprietary MagnaForce® alloy, which is 17% stronger than the industry standard while weighing as little as 36 lbs.
Alcoa® Wheels offers multiple lightweight solutions featuring the MagnaForce® alloy. Two examples include the ULT36x and Alcoa® Ultra ONE® 22.5″ x 14″ Wheels. At 36 lbs., the ULT36x is the lightest and strongest 22.5″ x 8.25″ aluminum forged wheel in the world. It is ideal for trailer, and motorhome applications. Alcoa® Ultra ONE® 22.5″ x 14″ Wheels – part numbers 84U61x and 84U64x – weigh just 49 lbs., three pounds lighter than their predecessors, making these wheels the lightest and strongest in the industry. They can save over 1,400 lbs. when converting from steel dual wheels and tires on an 18-wheeler. They’re ideal for tanker trailers, bulk trailers and long-haul tractors.
Wide Base Wheels
Wide base wheels are extremely beneficial to companies that are weight sensitive – like those who use liquid tankers, dry bulk tankers, or for mining – that want to carry the maximum amount of goods on their trailers. At 49 lbs., Alcoa® Ultra ONE® 22.5″ x 14″ Wheels are 60% lighter than even the lightest steel dual wheels on the market (22.5″ x 8.25″ steel wheel at 65 lbs. each) and the lightest option available in their class. Truck and trailer combinations can be made significantly lighter with this wheel type, with weight savings up to 1,400 pounds, enabling more cargo to be carried.
Severe Service
Severe service wheels are made to be as tough as the harsh conditions they have to endure. From logging to mining to construction, certain applications need stronger wheels to help accomplish the job. With one-piece forged aluminum strength that is five times stronger than steel, Alcoa® Severe Service Wheels deliver durability and additional payload in demanding applications without compromising safety or efficiency. They can weigh as little as 50 lbs., which is 29 lbs. less than a comparable steel wheel. Alcoa® Severe Service Wheels are standard size wheels – 22.5×8.25 and 24.5×8.25 – but they offer a higher load rating than other wheels of the same size (up to 8,300 lbs. versus 7,400 lbs.).
Heavy Load
Where Alcoa® Severe Service Wheels are made to be tough for severe conditions, heavy load wheels are made to be extremely strong, with max load ratings up to 13,000 lbs. They’re ideal for refuse collection, logging, mining and other heavy haul applications. Proven LvL ONE® technology significantly reduces wheel weight versus comparable aluminum and steel wheels. Alcoa® Wheels heavy load wheels are wider than a standard wheel (22.5″ x 8.25″):
- 22.5″ x 9″ – max load rating 10,000 lbs. (part numbers 89U63x0 and 89U64x)
- 22.5″ x 12.25″ – max load rating 12,300 lbs. (part numbers 82262x0, 82362x and 82462x0)
- 22.5″ x 13″ – max load rating 12,800 lbs. and 13,000 lbs. (part numbers 83U65x, 83462x0 and 83358x0)
Whatever wheel is chosen, Alcoa Wheels® offers a wide range for all types of applications, with every wheel designed to be light and durable to increase overall fuel efficiency, improve maintenance savings to maximize productivity and lower total operation costs, and carry more payload.
